As the rubber glided across her book, the picture with a mistake began to disappear from the little girl’s book. She was excited to draw a new and better picture in its place. On that sunny afternoon, she and her mother sat together, drawing some wonderful pictures.
"Isn't it amazing how a rubber can give you a second chance to correct your mistakes?" her mother asked, smiling.
The little girl, still focused on her drawing, replied softly, "Yes, I love my rubber! I love the way it helps me to correct my mistakes."
Her mother saw this as a perfect opportunity to teach her daughter a valuable lesson. "Sweetheart, do you know that there are some mistakes that can never be erased?" she asked.
The little girl thought for a moment before responding, "Like when you use a pen to write instead of a pencil?"
Her mother smiled. "That's a good guess, but there are special erasers that can remove pen marks. What I'm talking about is something different."
The little girl's curiosity grew. "What kind of mistakes can't be erased?" she asked.
"Our words," her mother replied gently.
"Our words?" the little girl asked, looking puzzled.
"Yes princess." the mother continued gently. "When we say something hurtful to someone, we can't take it back."
The little girl listened carefully.
"This is why we must be careful not to say hurtful words to others, because we can't take them back," the mother concluded. "And one way to help us with this is by praying to God for guidance. Let's pray together."
The mother held her little girl's hands, and together they prayed:
"Dear God, help us to always choose our words wisely. May our words be as sweet as honey. In the name of Jesus, amen."
