As she opened her eyes to the bright sunlight streaming through the curtains, she knew Sunday morning had finally arrived! Ever since her mom had promised to make a banana cake, her favorite treat, she could barely sleep.
The aroma of the cake wafting from the oven filled the house as she jumped out of bed and ran to the kitchen in her pajamas. Her mom was busy washing dishes, but she couldn't help but exclaim,
"Oh, Mommy! Banana cake is my absolute favorite!"
Her mom smiled at her excitement. "I'm glad you love it, sweetie. But first, what do we say to each other in the morning?"
The little girl's eyes sparkled as she remembered. "Good morning, Mommy!"
Her mom hugged her tight. "Good morning to you, my dear."
"Now, is the banana cake almost ready?" The little girl asked, her excitement growing.
"Not yet, sweetie," her mom replied. "It needs about 20 more minutes in the oven."
The little girl helped her mom dry the dishes, but soon grew impatient. “Mummy, I think it's done! It smells so yummy! Can we get it out now, please?”
Her mom gently taught her a lesson about waiting. "The aroma is lovely, but it's not the smell that tells us the cake is ready. It's the time. If we take it out too soon, it might not be cooked properly and could hurt your tummy."
The little girl looked up at her mom with big, hopeful eyes. "But Mommy, banana cake is just so delicious!"
Her mom smiled and hugged her again. "I know, sweetie. And it'll be worth the wait, I promise."
As the little girl waited patiently for her beloved banana cake, she learned a valuable lesson about the beauty of waiting. In a world where getting things right away is often the norm, it's easy to forget the importance waiting.
So, let us cherish the beauty of waiting, whether it's for a delicious banana cake or for God's perfect timing in our lives. May we learn to wait with hope, trust, and patience, knowing that God is always working everything out for our good.
As I read this story to my little ones, I pondered on how I too was blessed by it. Even as an adult, there's continuous need for the grace to hold onto the virtue of patience.
