"Daddy, it rained last night!" the little girl exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement. "Look, the grass is wet!" She said while point to the grass.
Her father smiled and replied, "Good observation, princess! However, I'm quite sure it didn't rain last night."
"But, Daddy, look at the grass! It's all wet!" she insisted, her face beaming with confidence.
Recognizing a teaching moment, her father asked her to follow him to the rainwater tank outside their house. The tank was empty, because it hadn’t rained in their area for a couple of weeks.
"If it rained last night, we should have some water in this tank, right?" her father asked.
The little girl nodded confidently. "Yes! There must be water!"
Her father opened the tap, and to her surprise, nothing came out. The little girl's eyes widened in confusion.
"But, Daddy, how come the grass is wet?" she asked, her brow furrowed.
Her father explained, "The grass is wet because of something called dew. These are tiny water drops that form on surfaces overnight, even when it hasn't rained."
The little girl's face still showed confusion. "But how does dew form without rain?" she asked.
Her father used an analogy to help her understand. "Remember what happens when I put a cold glass of water on the table without a mat?"
The little girl thought for a moment before responding, "It leaves a ring of water on the table."
Her father nodded. "Exactly! In the same way, at night the air outside starts to cool down and as this happens, tiny drops of water are formed, called dew. That is how we have wet grass without it raining in the night."
As the sun rose higher in the sky, the dew left behind a gentle sparkle on the grass. The little girl watched, mesmerized, as her father said, "You know, princess, dew is one of the reminders of God's beautiful creations. His creations are full of beauty and wonder!"
