As they sat together in the warm sunshine, a curious little girl looked up at her mother with big, wondering eyes. 'Mummy, who is God?' she asked. Her mother, who had loved and followed Jesus for many years, smiled gently. But she knew that answering this question in a way her 5-year-old daughter could understand wouldn't be easy. She took a deep breath.
‘Just a moment, sweetie,' her mother replied with a gentle smile. 'Let me think for a second.' But what she was really doing was sending a quick prayer to God, asking for the perfect words to answer her daughter's big question. She knew that children often ask the most amazing questions, and she trusted that God would give her the wisdom to answer in a way that would impart the knowledge of God to her little girl.
The little girl's face lit up with excitement as she waited for her mother's answer. She went back to running around the tree chasing butterflies, but her anticipation was palpable. Before long, she ran to her mother. "Mummy, are you done thinking for a second?" she asked, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm.
This time, her mother smiled knowingly. She took her daughter's hand and said, "Sit down here with me, sweetie. I want to show you something." Together, they sat under the shade of a beautiful tree. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, keeping them cool and comfortable
"Feel the breeze, sweetie?" her mother asked, smiling.
"Yes! It's so refreshing!" her daughter replied, twirling around with her arms outstretched.
"Can you see the wind with your eyes?" her mother asked, curiosity sparkling in her voice.
Her daughter thought for a moment, then pointed to the rustling leaves. "I can see the leaves moving!"
"Exactly!" her mother said. "But those are just the leaves. We can't see the wind itself, can we?"
Her daughter shook her head, looking puzzled.
"That's okay," her mother reassured her. "In the same way, we can't see God with our eyes either. But just like the wind, we can see what He does. We can see how He makes beautiful flowers bloom, how He sends us rain to make things grow, and how He gives us love and joy in our hearts."
Her daughter's eyes widened with wonder. "What else does God do, Mummy?" she asked, eager to learn more.
"God helps us in so many ways," her mother explained. "He helps us get the money we need to buy food and toys. That's why we always pray to Him, to thank Him and ask for His help."
"God also helps us feel brave when we're scared," her mother continued. "You know, sometimes even grown-ups like me get afraid."
The little girl's eyes widened in surprise. "You get afraid, Mummy? But you're big!"
Her mother smiled. "Yes, sweetie, even Mummy gets afraid sometimes. But when I'm scared, I pray to God and He helps me feel brave again."
The End!
