As the toast popped up from the toaster, the mother got the table knife and began to spread margarine on the warm bread. Her little boy's excitement grew, and his appetite increased in anticipation of his delicious breakfast. As she applied the margarine, crumbs began to fall all over the table.
Before long, a trail of tiny black ants appeared, marching quickly towards the crumbs. One by one, they started to carry the bread crumbs away. The little boy watched in amazement.
"Look, Mummy! The ants are taking food back to their home," he exclaimed.
His mother smiled at his observation. "Yes, that's right! Good observation, my little scientist. But remember, ants aren't pets that we should be feeding."
The little boy listened as he watched the ants working together to carry away the crumbs.
His mother continued to explain. "Ants can make us sick if they get into our food. They can also damage our home by eating away at wood. And if they bite us, it can be very painful."
The little boy's eyes widened as he remembered the pain he had felt when an insect had bitten him before.
"Oh, Mummy! It really hurts when they bite!" he said.
His mother nodded. "That's why it's so important for us to keep our home clean. We need to clean up after meals and keep our food covered. This will help keep the ants away."
The little boy nodded, understanding the importance of keeping their home clean. The little boy helped his mother clean up the kitchen, making sure to wipe down the counters and sweep the floor.
