The Office Mouse

"Daddy, Daddy! There's an emergency!" little Jozen shrieked, his voice practically rattling the windows.

From the living room, Daddy's head popped up. "Jozen, is everything alright?" he called back, already halfway out of his comfy armchair, ready for action.

"No, Daddy! Come quick!" Jozen insisted, practically bouncing with urgency.

"There's a mouse in your office!"

"A mouse?" Daddy mumbled, now fully on his feet and heading towards his home office, a puzzled frown on his face.

He grabbed the broom – his go-to weapon for anything from dust to cockroaches – and bravely dashed into the room.

"Alright, son, where is it?" he whispered, broom held high like a knight's sword.

"It's right here on the table!" Jozen chirped, a mischievous grin starting to spread across his face.

"Where?" Daddy squinted, scanning the desk.

"Right here, Daddy!" Jozen pointed dramatically at the small, black object sitting on the mouse pad. It was, of course, the computer mouse.

Jozen immediately exploded into giggles, a sound so infectious that his little brother, who'd been there the whole time, burst out laughing too.

Daddy stood there for a moment, his face a mixture of seriousness and surprise. But the laughter of his two boys was simply too much to resist. A chuckle escaped him, then another, and soon he was laughing right along with them, the broom forgotten.

"Nice one, Jozen!" he managed to say between laughs.

"Yes, Daddy! We got you!" Jozen beamed.

"I kept thinking about this ever since you told me this was called a mouse!"

Daddy scooped Jozen up in a big hug, tickling him until the boy shrieked with delight.

"That was a brilliant trick, Jozen. You had me thinking there was a mouse here!"

Jozen, still giggling, wrapped his arms around his dad's neck.

"It was funny, right, Daddy? Like a real emergency, but it was just the computer mouse!"

Daddy ruffled his head. "It was very funny"

Jozen's eyes lit up, and his little brother cheered. Daddy knew that from now on, every time he saw his computer mouse, he'd remember Jozen's clever trick and smile.
