The piano keys made a series of plonks and wheezes instead of the happy tunes she was used to. It was clear that the batteries had run out.
"Daddy, can you get me some new batteries?" she cried, running to her father, who was busy repairing the kitchen shelves. "My piano is broken!"
"Let me finish up here, and we'll check the garage for some new batteries," he replied.
As they searched through the drawers in the garage, her father saw an opportunity to teach her a valuable lesson. "Isn't it amazing how the new batteries are going to bring your piano back to life?" he asked.
"Yes! It'll play beautiful music again!" she exclaimed, bouncing with excitement.
"Batteries give the piano its power," her father explained. "Just like your piano, our bodies need power to work. We need power too, every single day, to be strong. Any idea where we get our power from?"
The little girl shook her head.
"Food gives us energy," he said. "When we eat, we get the strength we need to run, play, and do everything!"
Her eyes widened. "You're right, Daddy! I do feel stronger after I eat!"
He smiled as he went on. "And guess what? Fruits and vegetables are some of the best power foods. So, if you want to be super strong, you need to learn to love your veggies!"
The little girl grinned, though her expression betrayed her. Vegetables weren't her favorite.
"Okay, Daddy, I'll try harder," she promised.
Just then, her father found the batteries. She eagerly popped them into the piano and pressed the power button. The piano sprang to life, filling the room with a cheerful melody.
